I just purchased a a Hoover 18 volt hand held platinum series vacuum cleaner because I have the matching stick vacuum cleaner which is first class. Unfortunately, I don't think the hand held vacuum cleaner is in the same league as the corresponding stick vacuum. There are problems with the extended brush nozel--the brush pushes forward out of position while using it and the nozel extension flips down on a hinge making it very difficult to use. Many other buyers complained about this as well. Also, the suction is just a little weak. In contrast the reviews of the Black and Decker unit are much better and it is only half the price of the Hoover. I think the Hoover I order had been returned---it came with no manual or warranty card. I called Hoover and they were not very helpful and also notified Amazon.com--no response from them. I will return the Hoover and order a Black and Decker.
