Miele S184 Review: Powerhouse Upright Vacuum Cleaner

June 22, 2009

The Miele Powerhouse S184 weighs 14 pounds and got negative reviews on users, but positive reviews from experts.

Miele Powerhouse S184 Review Anaylsis:

miele-s184-reviewPerformance: Its performance is raved by experts, yet complained about by users. Though most where “satisfied” about the performance, its performance can’t be great if you have a lot of carpet.

Features: This upright has a ton of features include ability to turn off the rollerbush to vacuum with the 7-foot stretch hose. It has a crevice tool, a two-piece wand and a dusting tool.

Other Features include:

  • Variable Speed Control - which most found using it to the max.
  • Electrical cord is only 25 feet long, which is long enough to get vacuuming done.
  • Headlight to illuminate its cleaning path.
  • HEPA filter

Value: Selling for $270 (Amazon Price) it has significant value, yet it is one of those vacuums which is mid-priced. Meaning if you spent less, or invested more, you can get a far more performing vacuum.

Conclusion: Because of mixed reviews, its hard to effectively analyze this canister vacuum. Yet, we know for certian its not the upright for carpets, yet it does have a lot of cleaning attachments.

Miele Powerhouse S184 Overall Rating: ★★★½☆

Miele Powerhouse S184 Reviews:

“But because it doesn’t work well on bare floors, has a short electrical cord and just two onboard tools, it doesn’t rank as high our list as comparable models.” – Expert Review

The Miele S184 vacuum is easy to use, has great filtration, and has lots of suction power. I find it does a good job on the hard surfaces as well as the carpet.” – User Review

Adequate on rugs, carpets. Very poor function on hardwoods, tile. The exhaust from the HEPA filter blows dust and debris away from the front of the vacuum before it’s able to be suctioned up.” – User Review

I have this vacuum cleaner and I hate it!!!! It cost me $300 and came highly recommended at the store I bought it from! They’ve obviously never used it. My $75 Hoover worked until it died. This one doesn’t do the job at all. It doesn’t work at all on uncarpeted floor, it comes with a couple of attachments that don’t really do the job, but can be used for some quick uncarpeted floor pick-ups. On carpet where it should shine it is just mediocre, since it doesn’t flatten as low as most cheapie vacuum cleaners it doesn’t really do more than a couple of inches under the bed and tables. Salesman’s solution, move the bed/table etc???? No, I’ll use a Hoover or a Eureka. Also the motor is incredibly powerful, that should be great, but the awkward power cord gets in the way, and the 1st time you ride over it, the Miele will chew through the cord. To use without attachments you need to plug the hose into the base, and to use with attachments you need to detach that, attach the vacuum cleaner and turn the roller brush off… not sure why all these steps are needed. I’m very dissatisfied and urge anyone else who is upset to contact Miele as I will be doing! AND I won’t be frequenting the shop that sold it to me again as they wouldn’t listen to any of my issues.
